New Diabetic Groups Focus on EducationIn an effort to minimize our ever increasing wait list and maximize service delivery, we at the FHT are launching a series of initiatives. Pre-diabetes group program: group sessions will be on the 2nd Tuesday of Every month starting in February. Topics covered include an introduction, what is pre-diabetes, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and moving forward with pre-diabetes. Two day sessions focusing on type 2 diabetes will be held on the first Thursday and Wednesday of each month. Topics covered on day 1 include: What is type 2 diabetes, blood glucose monitoring, nutrition and physical activity. Day 2 will cover medications, hypo and hyperglycemia management, uncontrolled diabetes and complications, psychological well-being, and foot care. Emotions WorkshopComing soon, our mental health team will be holding a half day workshop on Emotions and how to manage them. Congrats to our Smoking Team!Our Smoking Cessation Team have been recognized as tobacco-free champions by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. The awards are presented annually to celebrate World No Tobacco Day on May 31, and recognize community members whose efforts help to reduce the use of tobacco. Our smoking team has now received over 300 referrals. If you want to quit smoking give us a call!
LMC Endocrinology Clinic Starts!We are happy to announce that we are starting an Endo clinic using OTN at our office. The Clinic will run once a month. Patients will be seen by Dr. Susan Abdel-Salam from the Barrie LMC site. Patients of our FHT may be referred for assessment of the following: Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes Type 2 Gestational Diabetes Newly Diagnosed Diabetics Patients using a pump Endocrine consultations such as metabolic disorders, PCOS, etc. Lipid Consultations Osteoporosis consultations Patients must have a suspected or confirmed endocrine condition. Patients must also be 18 years of age or older and must have completed blood work within the past 3 months. For more information please ask your physician. |
