Mental Health

After receiving a referral from a GBFHT associated physician. The patient will have the opportunity to book an appointment to be seen by a Counsellor for assessment at the earliest opportunity, depending on patient/counsellor availability and the urgency of the situation. We will assume a contract for brief therapy of 8-12 sessions, which may, on occasion, extend into a longer term; however, our services are limited to "mild to moderate" concerns.

Counselling services are provided to individuals, couples, and families. Referred patients whose concerns are chronic in nature will be evaluated and assessed. If the patient's issues cannot be dealt with by the Team, the referring Physician will be contacted by a Family Health Team member who will discuss the information needed for the patient's continued mental health needs. The GBFHT will not be able to accept referrals for patients who are in crisis who would be more appropriately dealt with through a crisis team at the hospital or the psychiatry arm of Community Mental Health Services.

Psychiatric consultations can also be arranged to be seen at our office over the Ontario Telemedicine Network
